The two main fundraising committees for Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor raised a combined $230,000 in August, building their campaign war chest as they seek to defend their Republican majority in 2012.

Boehner’s Freedom Project raised $62,323 and Cantor’s ERIC PAC pulled in $166,705, according to two reports filed with the Federal Election Commission this week.

Boehner and Cantor tend to raise money differently – Boehner goes to lawmakers’ districts, speaks and the money goes directly to the candidate, while Cantor tends to cut checks from his political action committee. Plus, both of the top Republicans have other fundraising vehicles which allow them to raise big dollars from well-heeled donors.

K Street continued to pour money into both Republican leaders’ campaign coffers. Boehner received contributions from the Council Chain Restaurant’s Robert Green, Fierce Isakowitz & Blalock’s Kirsten Chadwick and Union Pacific’s Susan Andres. Green, Chadwick and Andres contributed $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000 respectively to the speaker. Boehner also received political action committee contributions from CIGAR PAC, Seniors Housing PAC and Wendy’s Company PAC.
