JERUSALEM, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Thursday that he will address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Sept. 23 to express Israel’s rejection of a unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood.

“The General Assembly is not a place where Israel usually receives a fair hearing,” Netanyahu said in a press conference in Jerusalem with his Czech counterpart, Petr Necas.

“But I still decided to tell the truth before anyone who would be interested in hearing it,” Netanyahu added, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The prime minister’s announcement came on the heels of remarks earlier in the day by Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki, who said the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) will approach the Security Council (UNSC) on Sept. 23 and submit a request for full membership status.
