Strauss-Kahn prosecutors seek to drop charges

Lawyers for hotel maid counter by seeking to remove district attorney

NEW YORK — The Manhattan district attorney’s office on Monday filed papers recommending that a judge dismiss some or all of the sexual assault charges against former IMF director Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

The move was announced after a meeting Monday afternoon among prosecutors and lawyers for Strauss-Kahn as well as his accuser, Nafissatou Diallo.

Strauss-Kahn is to appear in court Tuesday morning, at which time the judge could act on the recommendations.

Earlier Monday, Diallo’s lawyers filed a motion demanding that the district attorney’s office be disqualified from the case.

The motion, filed in state Supreme Court, seeks the appointment of a special prosecutor and asks that the case be stayed until a hearing can be held on the request.

Legal analysts say the unusual request is unlikely to succeed. The move comes as the criminal case against Strauss-Kahn is expected to be dismissed over questions about the credibility of Diallo.
