Texas Gov. Rick Perry wins Alabama GOP presidential straw poll

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Texas Governor Rick Perry easily won Saturday’s presidential straw poll at the Alabama Republican Party State Executive Committee’s summer meeting.
Perry, who spoke to Alabama GOP members on Friday night, officially announced his candidacy today in South Carolina.
His name was not on the Alabama straw poll ballot, but he won as a write-in candidate.
Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza who visited Alabama earlier this summer, came in second in the voting at the BJCC.
Here are the votes:
Perry, as a write-in candidate: 101
Herman Cain: 47
Mitt Romney: 36
Michele Bachmann: 24
Newt Gingrich: 11
Ron Paul: 3
Tim Pawlenty: 3
Rick Santorum: 3
Gary Johnson: 2
Sarah Palin, as a write-in candidate: 1
